Hey if any Linux developers out there want someone to write a short non-biased review or a howto article I’m open to suggestions.
All I ask is that the app is at least Beta 1 (sorry no alpha releases) and the app must be OpenSource or Free.
In return I will write the review, post it here and then submit it to a few relevant sites.
I’d like to focus on productivity, developer, utility or other everyday apps that people use but if someone builds a better SSH client or has a killer server app I’m game for that as well.
You can see my home set up here which is Ubuntu and Kanotix but if you have a specify distro you’d like to see the app run on let me know and I’ll set up a box.
But for now my main distro is Ubuntu because it’s the only thing I can get to run on my laptop.
So if you’d like a review or howto written just post a message with the URL.

Remastering Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu/nUbuntu Linux LiveCD
Because I am a sucker for punishment I want to remaster an Ubuntu CD because I want to include the Broadcom Wireles Drivers for my Gateway MX6440 Laptop/
This howto worked:
Customizing a (K)Ubuntu 6.04 Linux Live CD
It took me a few tries but I made it (or most of way) through this tutorial. Eventhough it’s a copy/pase job I still missed a step at some point and I spent hours trying to figure out why sudo mount -o loop $WORK/ubuntu-fs.ext2 $WORK/new wouldn’t work. User Error.
I made it all the way to Part 6 where you modify the system and realized I didn’t know how to add the drivers for the Broadcom Wireless BCM4318 AirForce Card !!:)
My new plan is to build a custom nUbuntu LiveCD with the BCM4318 AirForce Card Drivers so I can conduct Network Security Assessments using my laptop w/ wifi.
So before you run out and test this puppy out you should figure out what you want to change.

Desktops,
Projects,
Xubuntu A few weeks back my Mother-In-Law (MIL) became the owner of an eMachine Desktop (AMD 1Ghz / 512 RAM) with Windows XP Home Edition that was very virus laden, spy-ware riddled, porn infested and unstable system. Of course she wants to use the computer “to find a man” as she put it and wants me to help her. As Ray Romano’s farther put it “What contest in hell did I win?!”
The first thing I noticed was the PC was connected directly to the Cable Modem with out a Switch or Firewall. Once all of the spy-ware infested download managers, PC gadgets and chat programs finished loading I was able to start accessing the system. That when I found that the System was running Norton Anti-Virus 2004 with Auto-Update turned off and the last virus definition date being early 2005. Along with that Windows Auto Update was turned off as well!
